25,000 MWh saved. In a single project.
All too often, public debate focuses on short-term effects rather than the really significant levers for change. I fully understand the concerns arising from rising energy costs, both from the perspective of private households and as a managing director of an SME. In my view, however, many of the current measures fall short. And the discussions are dragging on for too long.
The energy transition will not be decided at political summits
Rather, it is in the production halls of our industrial facilities. That is precisely where the greatest potential for improvement lies. In one of our projects in the paper industry, we have systematically harnessed existing waste heat:
- from the extract air from the hood
- from two Turbair blowers
- for the production of process hot water
The energy transition is not decided at political summits. It is decided in the factory halls of our industry. That is precisely where the greatest potential for change lies.
The result:
- a reduction in energy demand of around 25,000 MWh per year
- which is equivalent to the heating requirements of more than 1,500 households
- and translates to annual operating cost savings of over €1 million
Projects of this kind reduce dependence on fossil fuels and make a direct contribution to securing Germany’s future as an industrial hub. The technologies are available. So is the economic viability. The risk does not lie in a lack of concepts, but in waiting and seeing. What we need now are not short-term, minimal solutions, but consistent support for the implementation of such industrial projects. In strong alliances. Together with our customers and partners. Because the energy transition is not decided; it is implemented. Project by project. As part of our shared responsibility.
